BP to annouce important news

Crains Business Weekly is reporting that Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and California Governor Arnold Schwarzeneger will annouce a major initiative tomorrow with BP regarding an energy research partnership.

(Crain’s) — Governors Rod Blagojevich of Illinois and Arnold Schwarzenegger
of California are scheduled to announce Thursday what’s being billed as an
“energy research partnership” involving universities in both states and a major
petroleum company.
A media advisory issued late Wednesday afternoon said the
announcement, set for the University of California at Berkeley, will involve
both governors, officials from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
(UIUC) and officials from BP, which acquired Chicago-based Amoco several years
ago and still maintains substantial operations here.
A simultaneous announcement is set for the UIUC.
Illinois officials declined to say exactly what will be announced, but BP CEO Lord John Browne last year announced that the company would be spending $500 million for a “dedicated biosciences energy laboratory attached to a major academic centre in the U.S. or U.K. (United Kingdom)” by the end of 2007.
