Obama running - his plans for rural america

Illinois Senator Barak Obama just announced that he will be running for the 2008 nomination for the Democratic nomication. This announcement was held in Springfield, Illinois in front of the Old State Capitol where Abraham Lincoln gave his famouse house divided speech. Barak spoke about his upbringing, working in the Chicago inner city and his work in the Illinois and US Senate.

Related to rural America - at least 2 times perhaps 3 he mentioned ending our dependence on foreign oil and using new fuels such as ethanol. He also talked about brining broadband access to rural america and to help American's prepare for the new economy in the 21st century.

He said that universal health care could be accomplished for all Americans by the end of his first term and the empowering of teachers with greater wages in exchange for greater responsibility. Both of these are important issues for rural Americans.

We will follow his campaign in the coming year and specifically watch his plans for agriculture and rural America.
