Congressman Tim Johnson is the only member of the House Ag Committee from Illinois. Congreesman Johnson represents Illinois' 15th Congressional District, which stretches from Pontiac and Kankakee on the north all the way to Carmi and Eldorado in southern Illinois. Agriculture is an important part of this district and Congressman Johnson is regularly in contact with his constituents back home.
I have often heard him speak of how humbled he is to have followed former Congressman Ed Madigan and Tom Ewing in Congress. Ed Madigan, from Lincoln Illinois was a former Secretary of Agriculture under President George H.W. Bush and Congressman Ewing from Pontiac, Illinois is a farm owner/operator in Livingston County.
Congressman Johnson is strong supporter of biofuels and recently voted for The Advanced Fuels Infrastructure Research and Development Act and commented: “I am pleased we were able to pass legislation that takes bold steps toward ensuring that renewable fuels such as E85, which can be made from our corn in the 15th Congressional District, are able to be quickly and widely used to help break our crippling addiction to foreign oil,” Rep. Johnson said.
Recently the Congressman held a town hall forum updating farmers and the agriculture community on the 2007 farm bill at Parkland College. He has an outstanding congressional staff including his Agriculture expert Kevin Johnson (no relation) who farms in the Champaign and Vermilion County area.
