INDIANOLA — Several people were commended for their efforts on behalf of the local farm economy at a celebration breakfast Friday in Indianola.
Vermilion Advantage’s Agri-Business Council hosted the annual Farm City Breakfast, which was well-attended at Doug and Vickie Miller’s farm along County Road 980 East.
Four people received the annual honors of Ag Business, Ag Leader, Ag Educator and Friend of Agriculture.
For the first award, Bob Boesdorfer, of First Midwest Bank, asked the crowd if anyone from Big R was present.
Manager Ted Swanson stood up from his table to receive the recognition.
Kerry Wienke, executive director of the Vermilion County Farm Bureau, said Big R stands out for its excellent service to both its customers and the community.
They have a good product line and provide exemplary service to the rural community, he said.
The Ag Leader award may have been an obvious choice to many of those in the room.
Former Vermilion County Farm Bureau president and current county board member Steve Fourez was honored with the recognition.
