Agentina Farmers and Agri-Business Leaders Visit Champaign County Farm

Eric and Maria Rund of Pesotum, Illinois

Agentine Visitors

The feast being prepared

I was invited to attend a gathering yesterday of a large group of farmers and agri-business leaders from Argentina. They had been visiting central Illinois all week including stops at the Farm Progress Show, John Deere in Moline, the Chicago Board of Trade and other central Illinois agriculture related stops.

Saturday they made a trip to the farm of Eric and Maria Rund of Pesotum, Illinois. Eric and Maria have long made trips to South America, since Eric was a member of the Peace Corps and Maria originally comes from Ecuador.

The visitors had a great time and enjoyed the meal that the Rund's arranged for them. They played some soccer, had a sing along with the band and helped cook the meat over open flame pits.

Eric has long been a leader in the area of bio-fuels and has a very interesting display in his yard featuring crops that can be turned into bio-fuels corn, soybeans, switch grass and miscanthus. He even has a yard ornament that is the molecular structure of ethanol, that was designed by his son.
